The homeopathic difference

Homeopathy is a form of wholistic medicine that encourages and stimulates your body’s natural healing mechanism. It is a popular system of medicine that has been used for over 200 years. It has been proven to be safe, gentle and effective. The homeopathic remedies (medicine) are completely natural, made from plants, animals, minerals and metals.

There are two ways to view healing and prescribe medicines: the way of opposites and the way of similars. Homeopathy follows the law of similars (explained below) and medicines are chosen by considering your body as a whole. The details of your health and life are significant, not just the specifics of your condition. When a medicine is chosen this way, it gives your body the information needed to trigger off an inherent, natural healing response. This stimulus continues to act, reminding your body to move towards healing. Even with temporary continued support from the homeopathic medicine, you will not experience side effects as you would from synthetic drugs. Your return to health will be natural and safe.

Homeopathy can treat long standing chronic complaints (ailments that slowly get worse over time) or acute complaints (sudden sickness or trauma to the body). Or, you may not have a diagnosis of a disease, but you feel that something is off balance; you have lost your vitality, your appetite, or your ability to sleep and rest. Because of the homeopathic perspective, you can experience the positive results of increased energy, improved sleep, and a greater sense of overall well-being.

As a homeopathic practitioner, I will take the time to listen in-depth to your health issues so that I fully understand the dynamics of your life and health. The atmosphere will be relaxed, and the full amount of time and attention will be yours. This will help me to choose a remedy that will start the process of healing. Over time and follow ups, the remedies may change, but usually I will work with just one remedy at a time.

Homeopathy is different in that it is not a one size fits all approach, but it is individualized. Each person manifests his or her ailment in a unique and slightly different way; two people with the same condition will not necessarily receive the same homeopathic medicine.

Your journey towards healing is possible, and homeopathy can provide the support of gentle and safe medicine, as well as the comfort of knowing your concerns are heard and addressed.

History of homeopathy

Homeopathy is an increasingly popular system of natural medicine based on the principle of “like cures like”. Formulated by Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) two centuries ago, it gained its reputation by successfully treating epidemics of highly contagious infectious diseases such as typhoid, cholera and scarlet fever. Hahnemann found that by treating using the law of similars, and diluting and vigorously shaking crude doses of medicine, his patients recovered faster and with fewer side effects.

Its practice has enjoyed wide popularity around the world among millions of individuals looking for safe and effective ways to treat illness and improve health.

“Like cure like” means if a substance, given in large doses, can cause symptoms of disease in a healthy person, then given in diluted microdoses it can cure a sick person suffering from similar symptoms.

For example, as a bee sting causes burning, stinging pain and skin that swells and is extremely sensitive to touch (large dose to healthy person), then the homeopathic preparation of Apis (diluted microdose of honey bee with stinger) may be used to treat patients who have hives, bites, and stings of any kind where the skin becomes swollen, itchy, burning and sensitive to touch.
